Building A Legacy

Giving Back to the Community

As we continue to grow our team of professionals, we talk a lot about building a legacy. We challenge ourselves by asking the following questions –

What do you want to be remembered for?
What do you hope to accomplish with your success?

We truly believe that the best measure of a person is not how much they accumulate, but how much they give back. In this context, we encourage our partners to get involved in their community, to try to make a difference, and maintain a selfless attitude in our business and within the community by asking Who can I serve today?

On her college's annual community service day, Mary Lynn Kayes volunteered with other alumni to collect funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities at a local convention.
Willingdon Wealth has been a major sponsor of the annual fundraiser for a local Hospice House for 8 years. The fundraiser includes a 5K run along with a 60 and 30 mile bike ride which members of the Willingdon Team participate in.

Stewards of the Game

Mike Kayes, president of Willingdon Wealth is the co-founder of “Stewards of the Game” a local youth sports ministry dedicated to teaching life lessons through sports. The pictures above show Mike Kayes coaching one of his youth basketball teams.

Through their church missions program, Mike and Mary Lynn Kayes have made several trips to Guatemala. While other church members are serving the members of the Guatemalan community either by providing medical care or installing water purification systems, Mike and Mary Lynn have organized sports camps for the children in the community.

Ted Ake one of our partners and managing director has served on the board of CLIMB Inc., a Charlotte based community outreach initiative. The goal of CLIMB Inc. (Christ Like In Mind and Body) is to affect and infect lives for the cause of Christ. In the pictures above some Willingdon team members helped the Climb organization with a demolition project. Climb plans to establish a coffee house in the space that will serve a variety of Charlotte ministries.
